CLEVELAND TRAINING NEWS

I was thinking of the parallel of raising a child from birth and the experience of caring for foster children. There is so much about raising children that improves from experience and sometimes trial and error. It doesn’t take long to figure out what is not working and what is.

Before we had our son we attended classes of how to care for him. We read books, talked and listened to other parent’s experiences, successes and mistakes. I am here to tell you nothing could have prepared us for the first night home with a newborn. The first months were a blur, responding as if someone had drugged us, came in and robbed us of all common sense and reasoning. As time moved on we slowly regained our lives and moved on to learn and grow with our child.

Fostering is a lot like that experience. We attend parenting classes, talk to other parents, listen to our trainers tell real life stories of victories and bumps in the road. We listen, we talk, we laugh and all the while we are sure we are ready to do this. We know you, as our foster parents, have great things to offer the children placed in your home. We want you to know that this, like other skills in life, is a learning experience. You will find what works for you and the child in your home. The road to successful fostering is built a brick at a time. Sometimes we go back and tear up a few bricks to replace them with better ones. Pace yourself and give yourself credit for the good things you are doing. This is a growing experience for you, your family and the child in your care. As always, we wish you well and are here if you need us.

Pathway Parents
Class and Childcare Registration

When we offer classes that have child care available, we are assigned DCM help, at considerable expense to Pathway, and given the amount of children we are able to accommodate. We often have a waiting list of parents that want to attend but there are no childcare spots available so we keep a waiting list. When parents don’t attend and don’t cancel their reservation that often leaves us with childcare spots open and parents that missed trainings due to childcare not being available for them. We are asking if you find you are not able to attend, please call us and let us know so we can offer other parents opportunity to attend. Thank You for your consideration.
