Support services for birth parents and adoptive parents help strengthen family relationships, and provide relief to parents of special needs children. Our goal is to help families stay together. Parents maintain custody while receiving these services.

  1. Respite Care
Short-term relief for birth and adoptive families from parenting special needs child from four hours to two weeks. Trained staff and licensed foster caregivers provide therapeutic hourly, day or overnight care in foster home, group home, child’s home, or community setting.
  2. Transitional Placement
Up to 30 days therapeutic group home care while making further plans for a child in custody of parents.
  3. Parallel Parent Placement
When a child cannot live with the birth or adoptive family for a time, the child can live in a parallel parent foster home or family home. The program is designed for the child and family to work on issues in order to return child home within 6-12 months. Maximum involvement of parents is through monthly team meetings, visitation and counseling. Communication and teamwork are important for success of this program.
  4. Post Adoption Services
Every child needs a family to commit to them for his or her lifetime. However, adoption presents specific challenges to families such as issues of loss, control and abandonment. Adoptive families need professionals who understand these special challenges to offer support during the lifelong journey of adoption. Pathway has sought to do that for ten years now for any adoptive family who seeks out our post adoption services. We have served adoptive families in over seven counties.
  5. Support Groups
    • We have a support group for the whole family with a group for parents, children 10 and older, and childcare for those who do not fit the other group. Meets at Pathway office in North Canton monthly during the school year. Parents and children gain knowledge and support from others who understand.
    • We have two Mothers Breakfast Groups for adoptive mothers. The groups meet in Hartville and Garfield Heights monthly. This group has a spiritual emphasis and mothers discuss pertinent subjects and pray for each other.
    • Fathers Breakfast Group to start soon.
  6. Educational Programs
Special workshops and trainings offered to adoptive parents.
