We've come a long way since we started out, but our mission hasn't changed. Learn a little bit about how Pathway has grown to become the community's standard-bearer for treatment and support of at-risk children, teens and families.

1973
Pathway incorporated as a non-profit organization.
Spring Avenue Group Home purchased with the aid of Deuble, Hoover, Stark, and Timken Foundations.

1979
Pathway foster home network initiated to meet the needs of neglected, abused, abandoned, and troubled children of both sexes.

1986
With the help of local foundations, the Harvard Avenue Group Home opened as a residence for adolescent boys.

1991
The Mother and Baby Program, a specialized unit of the Foster Care Network, was begun to provide care for pregnant and mothering teenage girls and their babies.
After 17 years, the Spring Avenue Group Home closed.

1992
With the assistance of the Stark Community Foundation, Pathway upgraded its foster home network to Treatment Foster Care. This program is designed for children and youth with emotional and behavioral problems.

1994
Pathway Support Services was organized to provide extra assistance to foster parents caring for children with emotional and behavioral problems.

1998
With assistance from the Stark Community Foundation and the Sisters of Charity Foundation, Pathway created Post Adoptive Family Support Services to provide help to adoptive families caring for children with special needs.

1999
Pathway became accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Services for Families and Children. Pathway became a member agency of the United Way of Central Stark County.

2001
Pathway re-organized Post Adoptive Family Support Services, becoming Family Services to meet the growing needs of birth as well as adoptive families for assistance in caring for children with special emotional and behavioral problems.

2002
Pathway approved to participate in the placement of children for adoption.
Pathway launched fund-raising campaign to build three "Family Homes," each of which would care for four children supervised by live-in house parents.

2003
The first "Family Home," opened on 25th Street NE in Canton.

2004
The second "Family Home," opened on Mill Ave SE in Canton Township.

2005
Pathway approved to provide Medicaid services—Behavioral Health Assessment, Behavioral Health Counseling, and Community Psychiatric Supportive Treatment. Construction of the third family home was completed.

2006
Pathway moved into renovated offices at 6370 Wise Avenue NW in North Canton. For the first time, Pathway owned its own office building. The third Family Home near Alliance opened.
