This foster care program was developed for children who have severe emotional problems, severe behavioral problems and exceptional needs. Foster parent candidates for this program need to have experience in working with special needs populations, such as in a group home for adjudicated youth, or an MRDD or mental health group home or facility. The candidate should be married or have a live-in partner, with one parent who does not work outside the home. The foster child needs to have his/her own room, and the couple should have no children or have children 12 years of age or older. Parents for this program will receive extensive training beyond the normal foster parent pre-service training. They will receive $54 per day in tax-free compensation for each day the child is placed in the home. Foster parents will provide a nurturing, therapeutic environment for the child, participate in counseling with the child, and transportation to all appointments.
