1. Who is family empowerment for? Who at Pathway is involved in Family Empowerment?

Families including foster, adoptive, and kinship who struggle to manage their children’s behaviors and are interested in learning new skills to best help their children.

2. What is family empowerment?

Family Empowerment is a program created to assist parents in learning skills, specifically Trust-Based Relational Interventions (TBRI). Caregivers will learn how to best connect and empower their child while also correcting challenging behaviors.

3. When is family empowerment appropriate?

It is appropriate when families need support and skills to manage challenging behaviors. This includes families who struggle with forming trust and connection and families who have Medicaid as well as adopted families who can apply for PASSS funding.

4. Why does family empowerment work?

Family Empowerment works because the child is able to live less in the “fear part” of the brain when a parent is connecting and regulated. Children and families work together to share power and work as a team while the parent is still “the Boss”. The more the child sees and understands how to respond and what is expected of them they will want to be successful.

5. How do parents work with Pathway staff and children?

Parents can work with Pathway Staff by attending sessions with their child and be willing to learn new things that will ultimately help their child succeed.
